Here's an overview of the Community Wave application process, commonly asked questions and how to get technical support.

Solar ready reference number

Once the customer is ready to connect, they'll need to provide you with a Smart Connect Solar reference number to include with their application. They can get this by logging in to MyAccount

Application to connect

Submit the Renewable Energy System Connection application, ensuring it contains the Smart Connect Solar reference number and complies with our technical and inverter requirements.

Receive the SGD device

Once your application to connect to the Horizon Power network has been approved, we'll notify you in writing and deliver the device (SwitchDin Droplet Plus) to your nominated address.

Installation day

Commission the SGD during daylight hours to confirm the solar generation controls can be tested as part of the installation process. Consult our troubleshooting guides or contact SwitchDin for technical support.

Community Wave

  • Why is Horizon Power launching Community Wave?

    Community Wave is our Virtual Power Plant (VPP). It helps us connect and coordinate the supply and demand of connected energy assets like solar and batteries:

    1. balancing the flow of solar energy to and from the network;
    2. maintaining a safe and reliable power supply to the whole community;
    3. and allowing more energy assets to connect.
  • Do my customers need to join Community Wave?

    Yes, from 1 July 2025, Community Wave is required to connect new solar or battery systems to the Horizon Power network.

    If you are applying to upgrade your customers existing system, you may need to replace the inverter so it is compatiable with Smart Connect Solar.

  • Who's eligible for the Community Wave Buyback bonus?

    Community Wave Buyback Bonus is avaiable to all customers*. To be eligiable the solar inverter capacity must be 5kW or greater, or for any sized inverter when paired with a battery.
