Horizon Power’s Stimulus Program, Renew the Regions, recently commissioned an independent review into whether it was meeting its commitments to deliver work opportunities and promote business confidence in the company’s regional service area, and the findings look promising.

When the utility first announced its now $75 million portfolio of projects as a part of the state government’s WA Recovery Plan, it committed to creating immediate and longer-term jobs in the regions, while also creating opportunities for regional suppliers and contractors.

Horizon Power has commenced construction on Australia’s first renewable hydrogen energy plant in a remote microgrid, in the Gascoyne town of Denham.

Today marks the commencement of site works on the business’ dedicated
704 kilowatt (kW) solar farm to power its innovative hydrogen plant and will feature a 348kW electrolyser, hydrogen compression and storage and a 100kW fuel cell allowing the production and storage of hydrogen.

Following the success of the recent Smart Sun Pilot, Horizon Power and DevelopmentWA have signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate to develop new regional housing estates with Horizon Power providing renewable energy solutions to lower household energy costs.

Long awaited improvements to Horizon Power’s Exmouth depot are a step closer to being realised, with local contractor Exmouth Civil winning the contract to refurbish the energy provider’s laydown yard.

Exmouth Civil will enhance the yard’s functionality by improving the surface, access ways and drainage, and by removing derelict structures and debris from the site

Horizon Power has awarded the contract for the installation of more than 300 kilowatts (kW) of rooftop solar on Shire of Derby / West Kimberley buildings to local Derby Aboriginal business Remote Solar Solutions.  

Horizon Power has been working closely with the Shire of Derby / West Kimberley to identify and develop energy solutions that assist in reducing the overall cost of electricity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. As a result, individual rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems will be installed on 13 public buildings including a solar shade shelter that will be erected at the Derby Pool.

Horizon Power has awarded WA based integrated renewables specialist, Hybrid Systems Australia, the contract to build Australia’s first renewable hydrogen demonstration plant in a remote power system, in Denham, Western Australia. 

Horizon Power today installed the first rooftop solar system as part of its Solar Schools program at Scaddan Primary School in the Goldfields Esperance Region.

Scaddan Primary School, which is 50km north of Esperance, is the first of 30 regional public schools that will receive solar systems to be installed by Horizon Power delivery team as part of the $5 million program

Southern Ports Authority has signed an agreement with Horizon Power to purchase power for the Port of Esperance commencing March 2022.

The Port of Esperance is one of the largest power consumers in the Esperance region, consuming approximately 25 per cent of Horizon Power's annual electricity output for the region.
